A Quiet January (and Why That’s OK)
This is a behind-the-scenes update for anyone curious about how a tiny wooden-puzzle business actually runs.
Hello, and thank you for checking out our blog. This post is a bit of a throwback to what blogs used to be about - actually keeping a log… on the web. A web log. Weblog. Blog.
January was quiet. Oh so quiet. By design.
Part of that quiet came from the reality of importing wooden products into Australia. There are layers to it that most people never see: fumigation requirements, paperwork, timing, costs, language barriers, and the general unpredictability of moving heavy wooden things across borders. None of it is unusual, and none of it is something I’m especially worried about - it’s just the nature of doing things this way, with these materials, from these places.
I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that there’s no point injecting stress into those parts of the process. The puzzles will arrive when they arrive. Everyone involved is doing their best within their own constraints.
The upside of all that is that January created space. With markets on pause, it’s been a chance to focus on the foundations of the business that don’t usually get much airtime when everything is busy and physical.
Markets have been the main way Kloob has grown so far - they’re how people discover the puzzles, try them, and decide whether they belong in their lives. That side of the business will always be important. But for Kloob to be sustainable long-term, the online and wholesale sides need to grow a bit. Having a permanent desk at WOTSO has made it much easier to do that work properly and consistently.
So that’s where things are at. If you enjoy these behind-the-scenes snapshots, I’ll keep sharing them from time to time. This is, after all, what blogs were made for!
